All About Me

MasalaGirl here! Here’s the quick & dirty about me:

I am a college student, a pre-med student studying nutrition and math, my passions! My hometown is Columbus, Ohio. I have always been active, and participated in school sports, and I still try to workout and pursue my new passions of yoga, lifting, and running, along with cooking.

I began cooking in high school more and more, and now love creating new recipes, filled with nutritious food. As an Indian, the spicier, the better (most of the time!)

I also love to travel. My favs so far:
(well, does India count?)
Helsinki, Finland
Pretoto, Italy
Occasionally, a post from a past vacation will pop up :)

I hope you enjoy, and thanks for stopping by!

P.S. My favorite colors are purple and black, and I love cats. And socks. Yes, this information is necessary. If you want to know more about me, keep on reading.

My whole life, I’ve had issues with lactose and some other stomach issues. A few years ago, I began experiencing more stomach pains and discomforts, and began experimenting myself with food. I have grown up with Indian parents who raised me on a fairly healthy diet, with a focus on fresh foods. I always loved to help them cook, and during my “experimental” period, I discovered a passion for food & cooking. I’ve also always been active, involved in multiple sports, and now I love working out on my own too. Combining my love for global cuisine, local/organic, healthful food and an active life, I hope to give this blog all the love it deserves, with lots of recipes, with some fitness and travel thrown in. It’s not a lifestyle blog, but a little will pop in here and there, as I’m also using this blog to help me grow.

Thanks for stopping by, and feel free to shoot me an email: mg@masalagirltravels.com with any questions, or leave a comment!

  1. Hi! I realize this is kind of off-topic however I had to ask.
Does running a well-established website such as yours take a massive amount work?
I am brand new to operating a blog but I do write in my diary on a daily basis.
I’d like to start a blog so I can easily share my personal experience and views online.
Please let me know if you have any kind of recommendations or tips
for new aspiring blog owners. Appreciate it!

    • Hi Marla, thanks for asking! its more work than I realized to try and keep it looking like I want, as you could tell from my sporadic poasting haha. but I say go for it! especially if you already are half way there with your diary!

  3. This is a fantastic website. Thank you for putting in the massive amount of time that, I am sure, it takes to publish such original. readable and useful content. All power and success to you, Masala Girl!

PS Guess who had shulgum sabzi as his very best…most favorite food item?

  5. Hey Priya (hope I spelled that right),

It was awesome meeting you and your mom yesterday at VegFest! Love the blog and the pics on instagram – and it’s great you’re working on all this stuff while in college. That’s amazing since I’m sure you’re busy with a load of other stuff. Continue the great stuff you’re doing Priya!

What do you plan on doing after graduation?

    Ray

P.S. Tell Bindu we said hi!

    • Hey Ray!

It was great speaking to you at VegFest!! Thanks for following along :)
as of now, this is my plan:

I’m studying: Nutrition (Dietetics track), & Pre-Med co-major, math minor

I came in with an interest in nutrition (major in “community” or minor, unsure), LOVED math (major), and have wanted to be a doctor since i was 5 (major). Then, math and science became increasingly difficult (I aced calc 1 & 2 (AP) but seriously struggled in proofs, the first major upper level course) but my interest and passion for nutrition and health grew, so I switched majors. I intend to become a dietitian (so graduated with a BS & get a DI (internship), take the exam, then shoot for med school. If I don’t get in (because science, ugh.), then I’ll go for my masters maybe! I’m hoping to work at restaurants or cafes or farmers markets meanwhile. I’ve already done some Farmer’s Market demos!

      • That’s awesome Priya! Sounds like you’re staying busy. My sister is just finishing up her residency now – it was a long road, but she’s doing peds now and loves it. I wish you the best on your journey. We should stay in touch. Shoot me an email!
